Is it normal to have black and white spots on the wood after it has been sanded?

After taking advice from responses on my old farm table that I sanded, I still have patches of white and black on thesurface of the wood. It is not pretty but I can not not spend more time sanding. These spots are normal and white will they go once I put on my Danish oil. I followed the advice given.ie fine sand paper, then steel wool, then white spirit, malt vinegar. but I am now at a loss maybe I was too fussy. My husband thinks so. All comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

Depends on where the original spots. You can expect brighter spots to darken immediately and darker over a long period of time. Weeks, even years depending on the amount of sunshine is the patch. Expect light patches to merge perfectly. Large dark spots that remain after how you treated the wood are here to stay. It is the nature of wood, you can either love or be unhappy about this when you look at it.
