Why is my PS2 does not read Compact Disc (blue) format?

I plop in the pan, put in, and my PS2 makes a sound of groans and then I go to "navigate" and he says: "Error reading disk". I did my PS2 during the holiday '03, so it should not be any anything wrong, right? He continues to make the whining noise and I think I will let down as they age. Just buy a DVD lens clean and run by a couple of times. If this does not work you can clean the lens manually with a cotton swab and alcohol, but I prefer to let someone who knows a bit about electronics to do this (if you do you might ask a family member / friend to do it, just google PS2 instructions for cleaning lenses). Because it's just one type of disc, I suspect the DVD cleaner will work.
