should i get bifocals, my order is high. Can I wear glasses at lower reading?

my vision is like -8.00 in each eye. but the eye Dr. said I must never get bifocals. why? wont this ruin my vision, if I wear my glasses unique vision of all time? Can I wear my smaller old glasses when I read? I am 24 years old. Sorry forgot to say

If you feel more comfortable reading with your prescribing older, then go ahead. It can not hurt. Whatever you're most comfortable with the whole idea of sunglasses. You do not state your age, which explains a lot.
