Bifocal lenses?

I had an eye appt. recently and was precribed bifocals for the first time (in my 40's). I also have high eye pressure. The doctor was very specific that I do not wear lines. He says I do would be able to use the straight 28's. I forgot to ask, but why do you think I can not not wear lines?

its possible. Rx can not all be achieved even in the progressive (a good example would be "slab-off prism)
